Initial General Consultation

  • consisting of in depth interviews with parents only, getting a complete social history of the student from birth on, discussing current placement needs and general discussion about realistic range of student's options.

Specific Consultation

  • interview with the student, when possible.
  • review of all academic/psychosocial/educational testing and records, including reports of any legal difficulties.
  • consultations with other professionals who have previously worked with student, including mental health professionals, teachers, guidance counselors and previous testers.
  • recommendations for additional testing, school advocates, special needs lawyers and/or transport services when needed.
  • communication with admission counselors at specific placement options including presentation of the students testing results and profile.
  • selection of appropriate facilities and counseling the parents on guidelines to evaluate the schools, programs or facilities.
  • tracking the student's progress once placed in the facility.
  • sensitivity to the situation, having been a parent who has gone through the same process.
